I read reviews and really wanted to get the Dyson for pet hair control but just couldn't bring myself to spend 500+ on something I HATED doing! After approximately 2 hours of combined use, the belt stretched so much it wouldn't vacuum anything. This was light duty, easy or normal use without getting anything stuck in the brush head. After a fairly exhaustive search locally to find a belt, I gave up. Before I knew it my wife had junked it and it was gone from our lives.

We owned the earlier versions of this spotlifter. we used up 3 of them cleaning up after dogs and children. I was so disgusted with this new version, i sent it back. The dirty water is full with 2 oz of pickup and if you exceed that tiny dab, the machine shoots the overflow out the side. there is no wall hanger for this one. The old one mounted on the wall with a simple plastic tab. The clean-water reservoir falls off if you turn the machine 20 degrees from perpendicular.

I've had none of the problems that other people have commented on. This works great for me! When my new puppy has a slip-up all I have to do is grab the Spotlifter and off I go to clean up the mess. I've had no odor coming from the machine and I've found that cleaning the machine takes only a minute. These brushes are just like the ones sold by iRobot company. I gave them a lower rating because I think the design could be improved. The older brushes had 5 arms instead of 3, and I notice that these don't work as well. However, the brushes were advertised as 3 arms and I received exactly as shown with fast delivery. I would reorder from this vendor.

I think the new three brush system is working for my system better than the 5-brush system. It appears to be more durable. I have not had it very long but time will tell to see how long it lasts, or holds up. It appears that the manufacturer did their homework and redisigned the brushes just a little, hopefully to make them easier to install and to last longer.

It installed very easily with just one screw. The product quality is still on trial as I don't use it much, but it was very quick delivery only 1 day after I ordered it. I bought this to use on my stairs and I could not believe how well it worked!! Really picks up everything. Then I used it on my sofa which did not appear to be dirty but there was tons of cat hair it picked up. Same results for the comforter on my bed. I have 2 cats, and the hair previously had been so hard to control on furniture and the stairs. This little vacuum is AMAZING. Using the pink, rubbery attachment, I am able to very quickly remove hair from the furniture as well as on the spot on the bed comforter where they like to sleep. With the other attachment, I was even more impressed with how well it removes hair from the stairs and in tight spots. Great power! It's extremely easy to empty as well.

My only complaints are that......

I got this along with the versus and hate it.... the high power motor blows the dust away before you have a chance to vacuum it up...the catch needs to be cleaned out often and the pet hair attachment does not work...don't recommend at all!!!

This is the first hand-held vacuum I've ever owned, and I have to say that it does what it's supposed to very well. Cleaning hard to reach places and dusting blinds, for example, are a snap. BUT: the fan exhausts to the side, so unless you're very careful it can wind up blowing the dust and dirt already on your floor all around the room!

If this were re-designed to exhaust out the back it would be just about perfect.

I really like this machine. It has plenty of attachments and is well made. The only problem I have with it is I have no way in which to pick up the machine. There is no handle and I don't like the feel of it when I drag it. I would rather pick it up.

This is a very effective steam cleaner. It's relatively light and easy to move around, although the hose is so long you probably won't need to move it much. The steam comes out with less pressure than I expected, but it doesn't seem to keep it from working well. I used it to clean a summer's worth of grease off my grill, and it worked great.

Ok, I didn't actually read ALL 235 previous reviews. But so far as I know, nobody in the favorite reviews is telling you this isn't really cleaning with steam. Sure, it was probably steam coming out of the boiler. But once it makes it thru the generous hose and emerges, it is just really a warm mist. I aimed it at a thermometer and the highest I could get it was about 140 degrees.

As for how it cleans, it does ok on some things, but then again I'm not sure its doing much more than......

Works great (though it is not cordless as the description said). It has a powerful suction and does a good job with the car.

I'm not sure if this is possible in mini vacuums, but filterless would be a hundred times better... The filter is kind of fuzzy so it is a bit difficult to clean off, and it does fill up pretty fast.

Overall, I can recommend. Beware, if you are planning on using this with an inverter from your car, it uses 900 Watts and will not work with a lighter......

My only complaints are small ones.

1. The steam doesn't last long enough for the multiple tasks I have to do from time to time. About 30-40 min of steam.
Then you must wait for the unit to cool before adding more water, which can take some hours.

2. The burst isn't completely consistent beyond several minutes.

This product is not useful for removing older wallpaper. Can damage wall board underneath and is less effective than liquid wallpaper remover. This cleans like no other machine I have ever had. Initially I was very happy with this little vacuum. It's light weight and it's easy just to grab and go. I am glad that I bought this mop. It cleans my porcelain tile by using steam which then turns to water which you rub across the floor like any conventional mop. Although tap water may be used, I use distilled water to prolong the life of the filter as per the instruction booklet, and there are no other cleaning agents involved. This is a very nice mop, my textured tile floors are much cleaner. I like this mop for several reasons; it uses no chemicals, pads are easy to clean, and it is effortless to use.
The only con is that the cord is not long enough, and that is easily solved using an extension cord.

I've had this vacuum for a month and have used it several times and I really like it. I have a 900 s/f condo with 50% split of tile/carpet and it has been more than sufficient. The suction is really good and the one touch dumping of the dirt is extremely nice. If there is one negative it is an extremely minor one in that the hand attachment which is attached to the top front of the unit comes off by itself with minor bumping.

For the price you get a good bang for your buck.

Be careful if you purchase this product. The price is decent, but you have to keep it moving or it could cause damage to flooring. I luckily read about this issue from a reviewer who damaged the floor when letting the vacuum sit on unprotecting flooring while using the accessories. I vacuumed new but inexpensive carpeting with it and the amount of carpet fibers in the container blew my mind. Even at the highest setting. I ordered mine because a local exchange raised their price from $67 (& no tax) to $89, so back to Amazon I went.

I got mine in under 2 weeks for around $68, (it's $67 currently) and even though it's a bit heavy, it's performance more than makes up for the heavy weigh before you turn it on.

Once you turn it on, even in the high setting, the brush digs into the carpet so well that it almost feels like a self-propelled version that Hoover used to make a few decades ago.
This is a very good vacuum. Loads of power and not that noisy. It does tip over when the accessories are used. But that is good because the brush always spins.

The cord is a little short, but just put a heavy gauge extension cord on it, or rewire it with the long cord from your old vacuum.

You have to unscrew 4 screws to change the bag - be careful so as not to damage the plastic holes. This is my biggest concern. I will be looking to replace the screws with a quic......

For the price of this product I would say it is just, ok. It vacuums just fine on carpet, not so good on floors. Also i would say that the location of where to wrap the cord is a little weird. First let me say... I am an agonizer-analyzer. I read all of the reviews out there on Amazon and the web that I can find. I was down to this... the Shark vs. Wagner steamers. Both seemed similar in reviews... I saved $5 bucks by purchasing the Wagner. I received it 1 day earlier then expected. I opened the box and dug in (yes, I am also a person that doesn't necessarily read the instructions... until I can't get something to work that is.) Guess what? EVERYTHING worked without reading the instructions. Note to the wise, it is probably best if you do. I have since gone back to ensure I was operating the machine safely and correctly.

I LOVE IT! When people say in their reviews that they couldn't stop cleaning stuff, it is SOOOOOO true. These are the things I have cleaned so far. 3 kitchen sinks. I couldn't believe how clean they became. They are all stainless and shining like mad. I really do believe they are clean enough to eat out of them (not that I would). I have granite counters with this itty bitty grout between the sinks and the counters. I didn't realize they used white grout... oh my gosh, they look like they were just put in and they are 11 years old.

What else? Yes, I didn't stop there. I went over to the stove. It is stainless steel with gas fixtures and iron grates. Do you know how many cleaners I have purchased for the black metal top that have never made it look like it was really totally clean? MANY, MANY, MANY. This machine did it! And I honestly have to say, I didn't put any real elbow grease in at all. It lifted stains that I thought were permanent. It also removed a burn mark in the stainless steel which had been there for at least 3 years (with a lot of scrubbing that didn't take it away). And, after using the machine, it was really only a matter of wiping a little water residue away.

I really like the length of the handle/hose. I left it on top of one counter and was able to walk around the kitchen without worrying if the yellow beauty was going to fall off the counter or not reach where I wanted to take it. Gotta LOVE IT!

Ok, the above were only a few things that I cleaned in the first 15 minutes of opening the box. I probably could have cleaned more but I figured I would save my joy for another day.

A few other comments... I read a review that it was loud to operate. The machine itself doesn't make any noise. It isn't like a motor is going while you are trying to clean. The only noise that is made is the high-pressure steam coming out of the nozzle. What do these people really expect? Hello.... It was music to my ears because of the clean-up it was doing. I can imagine that you wouldn't want to be locked in a small closed in space for long... but hey, it didn't take that long to see it sparkle.

Pros:

(1) Powerful suction. Almost as good as my large vacuum.
(2) Very good battery life, esp considering that the motorized brush uses some power. Holds its charge well even when left off the base for weeks.
(3) The motorized brush is great for cleaning carpet and picking up pet hair from carpet and furniture.
(4) Motorized brush pulls off easily when not needed and is equally easy to push back onto the vacuum.

Cons:

(1) pet and people hair gets wrapped around brush and must be removed. Note that I have a long haired dog (Maltese) and a long haired person (me) to pick up after. If you let too much hair build up on the brush it will begin to wind up around the brush shaft, and you will have to take the brush assembly apart to remove it.
(2) I'm not overly impressed with the filter design on this one. I much prefer the filters on the Black and Decker products. The filter on this one is more like the ones on those old car vacs. Whereas you can easily rap the Black and Decker filters on the side of the trashcan to loosen trapped dust and debris, it is difficult to get the small stuff off of this filter w/o using your fingers.
(3) Although a minor complaint, this one is difficult and annoying to get into and out of its base. It needs to snap/lock into place. This usually takes two hands, especially to remove the vacuum from the base. (Note that I don't have the base attached to the wall at this time but just sitting on shelf. It might work better on the wall.) I prefer the Black & Decker base design where the vacuum sits on the charger the way cordless phones do.

Summary:

I really like this vacuum and use it often especially for carpets. I have owned it for about a year. I would recommend it to a friend. Except for the problem I have with long hair wrapping around the brush, I think this is an excellent and powerful, little vacuum.

I LOVE my Enviro Steamer. I bought my first one 10 years ago. Last fall, it gave up the ghost because of a design issue that has been solved in the new incarnation. In fact, the three minor things I did not like about my earlier model are solved in the new model. Way to go Eureka!

I made the mistake of trying a couple of other designs (Shark killed my back! and another one that was definitely made in China...both of the ones shipped to me never worked right). I was so happy when I went back to the internet and saw the Enviro Steamer was available again.

I told my husband I actually felt like dancing I was so happy to be steam mopping with my Enviro Steamer. I have about 800 sf of tile, I just fill and go, it covers the whole area. To move into another room, I simply unplug it, move, plug it back in and keep going. The weight is where it should be, on top of the pad. It cleans so well, for tougher stains just keep it steaming on that spot. In fact, it's cleaning the spots up that the others couldn't get! The pads are thick and easily tossed in the wash. The floor is clean, not wet which is great since I have two dogs. My white tile floor just sparkles and I know its clean because of the steam. I also like that fact that there are no chemicals.

Just vacuum, then use the Enviro Steamer. You'll never buy any other type of mop again, EVER! I promise! This is the best product for steam cleaning floors at a great price. (I paid $100 ten years ago for this.)

I wanted to share my experience with the purchase of a SteamFast SF-407. "I LOVE IT" this has been the BEST purchase I have ever made. I had procrastinated for years and regret not buying one earlier in my life. Between work, kids and their school, home etc., I do not have time to iron but I do it anyway and hate it. Hate it because of the white streak marks left on my work pants, sweaters and skirts. Once I received the box, opened it and assembled the steamer it took all of about 5 minutes. It was an easy set up, filled the steamer with water and a minute later it was ready to go steaming away! I ironed my clothes for today in a snap and they looked like they just came out of the drycleaners. I am sooo happy. You will not regret it.

This little vacuum packs in power and innovative design. From the first try, I was amazed at the suction. The first time through the house I quickly filled the bag and had to change it. The Intensity pulled up all the little carpet fuzz on the 3-year-old carpet that my old vacuum could never get. It has more power than any other vacuum I've used.

The collapsing design is a nice feature. It folds up into a neat little package that fits easily on a closet floor without running into the coats. I love the controls on the top of the handle. You can go from bare floor to carpet with the touch of a button. The cord retracts nicely. The bag is easy to change, though a bit small, well, because the vacuum is small.

I discovered a nice fail-safe feature when I tried to finish the room when the full bag light was on. The vacuum shut off. I waited a bit to let it cool down, changed the bag, and it started right up. So pay attention to that light.

Overall, the design is fantastic. A couple improvements though would make it even better. For it's small size, light weight and those big wheels, it doesn't corner all that easily. The front is nice and flat and has an edge for going under cabinets, but since the front is the same width as the back, you can't go straight under cabinets. You have to go at an angle and keep adjusting the position. So making the front part a little wider than the back would make going under cabinets a breeze.

Also, if it didn't have that big carrying handle on the top of the canister, it would vacuum right under the bed. The handle isn't positioned well anyway for doing stairs, because when you hold it by the handle to maneuver on stairs, it's too back heavy and tips back. A handle placed a little farther back on the canister would solve that problem - and it would vacuum under the bed.

There are no attachments with this vacuum, but I prefer that it do it's job on the floors and I use a cordless vacuum for furniture, edging and stairs anyway.

Please don't write this vacuum off as a secondary, light-duty vacuum. Even though it's small, it's a full-duty whole house vacuum with plenty of suction.

This thing cleans very well. All it does is brush the floor, but I have a great dane, miniature schnauzer, and cocker spaniel, so I need all the help I can get.

My floor by the back door is tile, and I let this guy brush it daily to pick up the grass the dogs track in. It does this job wonderfully. I also use it to sweep up the kitchen and dining room tile, and it picks up whatever mess is there better than I can do sweeping. The biggest help this little guy provides is cleaning my extra bathroom. My roommate is asian, and she has long, thick black hair, and it gathers in the corners of the bathroom quick. This guy has no problem running through there and picking it up for me. It also does what it is supposed to do, clean the garage, very well. I have a couch in my garage and I was shocked at how much stuff was under it when this guy was through. It does its job VERY well.

The only problem I have is that it is loud. I mean, louder than my Dyson, and it doesn't even have a vacuum. Maybe mine is the exception, but I can't even turn it on while I'm trying to sleep. I just use it while I'm not watching tv or anything, or when I run to the store. But it's still something to think about.

This bagless (but not filter-less) vacuum is really powerful. But with that power comes loudness (like mini leaf-blower) and a burning smell. I don't know if it's the motor, but it runs great and the smell is more of an annoyance. I don't think it affects the lungs, but who knows?

Also, like any other company overly concerned with money, Dirt Devil tries to kill you with the excessive costs for filters. (Subscriptions, Maintenance, or in this case Consumable Parts is how companies like to bleed customers.) So the filter are ok and expensive to replace. Try to keep the filter clean after each use (pretty funky, but better than paying like $10+ for a stupid filter) by tapping it off and picking out things that get caught in the soft filter.

This vacuum is good for sucking up general dust, dirt, hair, marble-sized objects, etc. (even poor little ants), but not for anything wet. The flip-put neck and detachable hose are great and helps for reach and getting around objects!

I'm not very vacuum saavy, I was in search of a basic machine to suck crap off the floor, lol. I bought a Bissell vac and while reading the manual, I realized it had lead in the cord! I had no idea that it was a common occurrence! I have a 6 month old daughter and the idea of lead just scared me to death. Add to that, the fact that the vacuum wouldn't pick up debris, it would just move it around. I quickly returned it.

I am so very in love with my Dyson! There is a small crack in the handle, other than that, my machine is perfect! It's got great suction, with just one swipe over a littered area, it sucks everything right up! It's such a pleasant change! My last vacuum was a cheap hunk of junk.

I would buy another remanufactured Dyson in a heartbeat!

I have been interested in purchasing a high quality home steam cleaner for the past 2 years. However the price tag of $1500 has delayed that purchase. After some research on Amazon, this item was chosen based on 18 reviews with an average rating for 4 1/2 stars and price. I felt at $20 this item was, if nothing else, disposable. It is actually quite amazing for the price! I use microfiber cleaning cloths and have cleaned the bathroom sinks, tub, door knobs/ handles, microwave, counter top, smooth cooktop, shower stall and windows. This product excels at cleaning all mentioned items. I am really impressed how well this product cleans out crevices and grooves. Metal fixtures shine like crazy. My windows have never sparkled before. It even cleans out the grime in the window sills with less effort. The results are noticeably better ( than conventional scrubbing ) and the windows look practically new. My husband agreed the results are amazing for $20. I don't think that the steam is quite hot enough to thoroughly disinfect ( which is why I want a vapor steam cleaner ), but if you feel the need you can spray some sanitizer first. After getting an idea of how well the steam cleaning works, I am sold and plan to purchase a household steamer, hopefully within 6-12 months -- and that's if I'm patient! I think having this small unit will be great for daily touch ups and small jobs. After using this all weekend, I was so impressed I had to buy 3 more to " spread the joy" so to speak. The product seems well made; not flimsy at all. I've only used it for 4 days, so we'll have to see how well this holds up over time. I'm optimistic and really think I've already had my money's worth. If it turns out to be durable and reliable, even better. I highly recommend this product.

i have had my swiffer sweeper for over a year now with no problems. since the charge does not last long (i get maybe 10 to 15 minutes) in order to finish all my floors, i leave the swiffer turned off, flip up the sweeper head and move all the dirt into one place and then sweep up the dirt and go around the baseboards and do the same for the rest of the rooms.

so, why buy this when it would be cheaper to buy the plain swiffer sweeper, the one without the vacuum? let me just say every day dry kitchen spills; coffee grinds, the dog knocked over the garbage, the kids crushed oyster crackers all over the floor, no dust pan. by the way, this is really good for broken light bulbs and glass on the kitchen floor; when i used a regular broom there would still be glass slivers in the floor weeks later. it only takes a couple of minutes to clean up the above mess.

i might get that shamwow and cut it to fit my swiffer vacuum and wet jet, that would save some money since the shamwow can be tossed in the washer.

i would have given this a five star if the charge lasted longer and
they sold reusable cloths for this. if my swiffer breaks, i will get another one.

It has lots of little attachments and I thought it would be difficult to assemble but it was very easy and took just minutes. I mainly wanted to use this in the bathrooms but found all kinds of things that it is perfect for. First, the bathrooms. I started with the shower and found that it blasted away years of gunk in the grout that I never could get clean with chemical cleaners.I also used it on the glass shower door which was pretty effective. I think I like it the most for the toilet. You really feel like it is disinfecting and the porcelain just shines. My husband must do a little dance everytime he pees so needless to say I was impressed with how it gets all the little areas under the seat. The floors were next and with a quick change to the floor attachment I was in business. It was perfect. I also used it on my sealed hardwood floors and they look great.
I agree with the other reviewers that the steam action is very loud so I just popped in my iPod earbuds and was all set. I have not found any negatives about the unit so far. I would certainly recommend this to anyone who is looking for that deep cleaning and sanitizing without using any chemicals. You don't get that nice fresh scent like you do if you use your Clorox but I sure feel better putting my butt down on that wonderfully disinfected toilet seat.

I was looking at Swiffers when I read a review directing me to this product. I decided to check it out and even though it was more expensive, I figured it would be a better investment in the long run.

I got this in the mail very quickly. I noticed the terror in my husband's eyes when the somewhat large box was waiting for us. I opened it up, saw that there were only two screws in the box and sent him off to watch tv. The assembly was super easy and fast (if I can do it, anyone can).

Then I put this to work on my kitchen floor. We have a large Doberman that manages to track in every bit of dirt she can find. She also makes a pond out of the floor area next to her food and water dishes. I ran this (only having to stop and really steam a few trouble spots) and the floor looks great. I was surprised at how well the steam removed dried on dirt and gunk.

I then pulled the cloth off and threw it in the dirty laundry basket. Simple and effective. I went a little bit slower than I would have with a Swiffer just because I wanted the steam to really work but I am not sure that made a huge difference. Overall, I am happy. I am going to do some reading on the filter life and perhaps order a few extra cloths but that's about it.

I love this vacuum cleaner! I have about as much hard wood floor in my house as I do carpet and it works great on both. I use all of the attachments; one for baseboards, one for the hard floors, and I love the suction control on the main vacuum attachment to use on throw rugs. Of course it also works great on both plush and berber carpet. It is not very loud and I love not having to buy bags. The self-cleaning filters and retractable cord are also great features. I have my house cleaned by housekeepers once a month and they said that they wish all of their clients owned a vacuum like this. You won't regret this purchase.

I've used this vacuum for two years and it is efficient. It does get hot (even when new) when the filter needs cleaning, which is often. Fine dirt accumulates in the HEPA filter and can't be removed by tapping so rinsing is necessary, with a 24-hr. drying time before reuse. Filters are available only from the manufacturer, so I called to order some and learned they are very expensive. I declined to purchase, and the customer service rep. was persistent. Only at the end of the conversation did she announce they were offering a special promotion of double quantity for the same price. That made me angry so I bought none.

8 Step How to Vacuum a Rug

What is the best way to vacuum a rug so you don't go over the same part twice? How do you vacuum so you don't walk over the already vacuumed part?

Plug in cord close to starting point
Most vacuums are designed to clean best on the backstroke (when moving towards you)so it is best to move slower when pulling the vacuum backwards and faster moving forwards.
Move the vacuum straight forward about 4-7 ft and then slowly retrace your path back to the original starting point.
Before starting the second stroke, angle the vacuum a couple inches to the right to create a second path about 4-7ft long parallel to the first.
Work your way across the room until you reach the opposite wall. Then step backwards 4-7 feet so your new path finishes where your previous path started.
Remember to try and always setup your paths so you are standing on the un-vacuumed section, so as not to create footprints on the pattern created by the vacuum.
Move farther back and back so by the end your at the door.
If the carpet is heavily soiled or a high traffic area, repeat the process working at a 90 degree angle. Or if you originally worked east to west, now work north to south. This works the carpet fibers from the most directions working out dirt and dust from the lowest levels

This product works well for the price and there's the bonus that the filter doesn't need to be replaced all the time. It isn't full HEPA quality, but who really needs that in a home. I have it in my bedroom. It has eliminated most of the dust from the air, and I haven't had to clean any dust off of surfaces since I started running it. It is fairly quiet at low speeds, though not the quietest on the market I suppose.

Overall, a great product for the price if you're not working in a medical environment where you need full HEPA level filtering.

The Black & Decker Pivoting-Nose Cordless Handheld Vacuum does an excellent job of busting away dust and small particles of dirt anyplace where a conventional vacuum cleaner can't reach or go. My vacuum cleaner does a great job on carpets and floors in general; but the narrow spaces close to where the floor meets the wall always seem to need a little extra attention. Wow, does this do an excellent job!

It's lightweight and very easy to carry. It comes with an electric charger; you'll need to charge the machine for 16 hours before you use it for the first time. After that, you're set to go! You only need to recharge it from time to time, not every day.

This handheld vacuum will do its best in narrow cracks and crevices; and of course you can use it to clean your car interior and other surfaces, too. I would keep it away at all times from wet surfaces

The filter and the barrel in which the filter is housed are both very easy to clean. If you clean it every so often the job is never time consuming.

I also like that this comes with an even smaller extension so that you get reach into the narrowest of crevices to clean them. The HEPA filter traps over 99% of dust particles so they can't come out the exhaust of the machine just seconds after you vacuumed them up--very good!

I have a few minor complaints. If you use this in the corners where the wall meets the floor, you will have to bend over or lean down somewhat to reach those harder to clean crevices. In addition, I do agree with reviewers who note that it's built in such a way that you DO have to operate a flimsy button to merely open the extended nozzle and allow it pivot to get into those very hard to reach areas. The plastic base for storing and charging could have been better constructed, too. I guess I have to take off one star for these issues.

Nevertheless, I still recommend this "Pivoting-Nose Cordless Handheld Vacuum" by Black & Decker. It's a great little gadget.

We have been using the vacuum for a few weeks now and we are impressed with how good our carpets look. It brought the heavy traffic areas back to life and I no longer think we need to replace the carpet. However, be warned that this is a heavy vacuum. Much heavier than I thought it would be. We have three stories total in our home which means a lot of stairs and using this vacuum on them is a workout. I also agree with another review that the hose is stiff and hard to stretch. Also, the dirt/hair gets clogged in the filter long before the dirt bin has reached its capacity. I dislike having to reach up to unclog it. Overall it is a good product with a lot of power and we have been impressed with the remanufactured version. We were looking at the new ones and we are glad we saved money by going with this option.

I have a huge tile floor and generally clean it with a roller mop. My floor always remains dirty, right after cleaning even if I change the water 3 times!
This steam mop has saved my life! It dissolves the sticky messes left by my kids. It isn't a hassle to just get it out and spot clean after sweeping, which is wonderful!! I can also just go into the bathroom at the same time and disinfect around the toilet....Wonderful! It is simple, easy on the back, quick and very effective. It also gets under my cupboards effectively. The swivel head is really great.
This all being said, if I got down on hands and knees, my floor would be cleaner. But, I NEVER do this and don't have the time or energy. This steam mop is way better than an ordinary mop, hassle free, quiet, chemical free and kid friendly.
I'm so happy. It is my favorite household appliance!

Couldn't beat the price of this floor cleaner. It works very well on my tile and hardwood floors. So much cleaner than using a mop, especially with 2 dogs in the house. My only hangup is that I have to empty the tank quite a few times when cleaning my fairly small kitchen & bathroom. I think if I had sprung for one of the more expensive versions from Hoover they may have a bigger tank capacity. On the plus side, the tank emptying process is simple. Would definitly recommend this cleaner!

I have had many different vacuums including a very expensive Oreck which I did not care for at all. This one, by far, is the best one I have ever had. It does a wonderful job of edge cleaning, not to mention overall suction is tops. The best part is how easy it is to push and pull. In fact, it sometimes gets away from me on the pull back and I have run over my own toes. How ridiculous is that! I have a one story home so I don't have to lift it, otherwise that would be the one dislike I would have about this vacuum. It is quite heavy. WOW. This Vacuum has some serious sucking power. After going through about 3 or 4 upright vacuums (some bagged, some bagless) that were slightly less expensive than this unit but absolutely useless (most didn't pick up much, one died, another would get too hot and stop running after 5 minutes) I decided to get a Hoover. I remember growing up we always had a Hoover canister that worked fnatastically and seemed to live forever! So, I spent a little more money and got this guy. I have to say, it's definitely a lot sexier looking that the off-white unit we had when I was younger, and overall I have noticed a decreease in build-quality, but the final result is just as good!

I have had this bad boy for about 2 months now, so I can't comment on the longeviety of the product, like some reviewers on here have, and only time will tell if it can stand up to the rigors of cleaning my apartment's carpets and hard floors, so we shall see. But, in the meantime, let me offer some pro's and con's about this machine:

PROS:

* Incredible sucking power! When you turn it on, it wants to practically run away from you and run across the carpet. What a suprising, welcome feeling that was when I first turned it on after using crappy uprights for so long.

* This machine will pick up just about anything. Some of my carpet is a very thin pile, and hair just sticks to it - human, cat etc. I haven't had a vacuum yet that could pick it up, but this machine sucks it up with ease. Incredible! I can actually lay down on my carpet again and not get disgusted - they're clean!

* The headlight is very useful for going under couches, tables etc

* It's very useful to be able to turn off the carpet roller for bare floors, like the kitchen, by just flicking a button on the handle

* Comes with a lot of useful tools that are high quality ABS plastic and are all stored neatly in the back compartment of the body. Very nice.

* Very easy to change the bags (which last for quite a long time with my moderate use) and this unit was very easy to set up

* The cord recoil feature is very usefu

CONS:

* Overall the build quality does feel a little cheap in *some* areas: the way the handle/pipes fit together used to be with metal pressure pins on the older models, now they are just plastic clips that feel flimsy, but so far so good. Also, the body looks a lot cooler in terms of design than some older models of Hoover but it also feels a bit more cheaply made

* The power button is on the base and is easily confused for the coil recall button. It would have been easy to just paint it a different color. However, I like having it on the base, I can just tap it on or off with my foot!

* Sometimes you have to play with the cord recoiler a bit to get it to take up the cord properly, but it's a minor issue

Overall a great buy! I am very happy with how this product performs and I'd definitely buy Hoover again. However it is made in the USA and I expect a highly quality build with better parts, perhaps, in the future.

I was in a situation of needing an in-between, yet dependable vacuum --- my current house has lots of carpet, but I'll be moving into a new house in a couple of months, and it has very little carpet. I needed a new vacuum NOW, but I wanted one that would fit the bill for both house needs and still not cost an arm and a leg. I've had 2 bagless - hated the nasty dirt every time they had to be emptied - and they always lost suction, even the more expensive models. So, I was in the market this time for a bagged vacuum. After reading the reviews on this one, I decided that for the price and free shipping, it was definitely worth a shot. SO GLAD I PURCHASED THIS VACUUM. It has great suction and picks up way more on my carpet than my bagless vacuums did. It even does great on hard floors, which I don't even think it's technically advertised to do (I had just read some other reviewers saying it did great on their hard floors, so I had hoped I'd find the same); it doesn't throw the debris around like most vacuums with roller brushes. I love the position of the carry handle - I can carry it up and down the stairs while simultaneously toting my 21 pound son in the other arm. It's also weighted well enough and light enough that I can vacuum the whole house while holding my son when needed. Also, the tools are well placed and easy to use. I've had vacuums where the tools constantly fell off or where the whole vacuum tipped over whenever you were using the hose - not so in either case with this vacuum. All in all an excellent buy. This is the happiest I've been with a vacuum since I started buying my own 10 years ago, and I think it's an excellent value for the money spent! Would buy again.

The Hoover Floormate 800 washes and dries my ceramic tile floor better than anything I have tried. The dry vacuum feature is not very powerful compared to my Miele and Hoover Flair, so I don't use it to dry vacuum at all. However, the wet cleaning is very effective and worth the purchase. Because the Floormate applies only clean water to the floor which it then suctions up into a separate tank, it is more sanitary than a mop and bucket. The floor also dries quicker because less water is left on the floor. Only my canister steamer leaves the floor drier than the Floormate, but my steamer doesn't clean as well because there are no spinning brushes and it doesn't suck up the dirty water like the Floormate does.

The spinning brushes are gentle on the tile, so if there is a sticky spot on the floor, I have to leave the brushes spinning on that spot for several seconds before they thoroughly get it up. There have been a few occasions where I had to use my fingernail on a piece of gummy candy that adhered to the floor (kids), but I would have to do that with any method of washing the floor. The brushes are on a spring system as a whole, but they do not get into the grout which is at a lower level than my tiles. Yet, because the solution sprays out and is then sucked up, the grout is getting cleaner than when I use a mop. The grout also dries faster so I know the vacuum has good wet suction.

When washing the floor, it is helpful to first go back and forth over, say, a 5 foot section with the sprayer and brushes on, then use the suction only setting to go back over that section to dry the floor better. This is not necessary, though, if you don't mind leaving the floor only about as wet as a sponge mop would leave it. A nice feature is that you control with a button when the solution is being applied so you don't waste the cleaning solution or get your floor too wet. I don't think the Floormate takes any more time than a mop and bucket because there is no wringing and redipping of the mop which saves time. You will have to refill the clean water/solution tank and empty out the dirty tank several times if you have a large or especially dirty floor, but this is very easy because the tanks are not very large. I just remove the tanks and carry them both to the sink. It still amazes me how dirty the water is compared to when I used a mop and bucket. The Floormate requires less effort than using a mop because it is easy to maneuver and instead of using your arms and back to scrub a stain, just let the Floormate sit on that spot and scrub for you.

The Floormate is somewhat heavy if you have to carry it up or down stairs. It is also loud. Cleaning it after you are finished is simple. Just rinse out the tanks and let them air dry. If you don't dry vacuum your floor well enough before cleaning, you will have to remove the brushes and suction head to clean the lint, hair and debris out. This requires more effort, but keeps the suction at its peak.

I would give this cleaner 5 stars if it had tiny little spinning brushes for just the grout lines that worked the same way as it does for the rest of the floor. It does come with an attachment for grout, but it is no more effective than scrubbing on hands and knees with a stiff toothbrush.

I bought this Hoover Vacuum a few days ago when I saw it for $50.00 on Amazon. I thought, "$50.00 for a vacuum that retailed for $300!? And free shipping? I'm gonna cop this on that AYSAP, ya digg?"

So I got this vacuum for $50, and it shipped for free because it was over $25.00. It's a GREAT price, but has now gone up. Sorry to those of you who were too slow. ;)

This machine has a motor in it, so when you push it, it drives itself. Isn't that cool? It's got a GREAT suction hose, even though it's a bit small. But the thing is, the hose is made of rubber, NOT plastic like most of them. The hose can get annoying because it seems short, but it's NO PROBLEMO, because I can move the whole thing. The cord is pretty long, and it has a great feature where you can see if it's picking up dirt. If it shows a green light, it's already clean, and you can move on. If it shows a red light, you know to keep going over that area.

Anyways, it's a great machine, and I love it. Holla back young'n... I'm about to be in vegas baby.

The first time I started to run this vacuum cleaner I was amazed at how much stuff in my carpet that my last vacuum was missing. A nice feature is that this vacuum comes with a warning light to let you know if an area is completely clean. I found myself going over and over parts of the rug that looked clean to the naked eye but was probably not. I have one dog and two cats, with all the animal hair shedding constantly a good vacuum is a must in my house and this one seems to do the trick.

Only placed where I noticed any wear was on the wheels -- everything else (as far as I could see) appeared to be new. The Euroshark sweeper is one of the best items I have ever bought. As the video shows, the sweeper is very versatile and useful. It works in either carpet or tiles, although I think it works best in carpets.

What it DOES pick up:
I have been able to pick up glass, nals, screws, paper, hair, dust, chocolate mix and many more things. This sweeper does pick up all of these things. I once broke a wine glass in the my carpet and the sweeper was able to pick up most of the pieces of glass. It allows me to do a quick sweep of the place to try to keep things neat.

What it does not pick up:
Crumpled up paper (as in the video), but it does pick up bits of paper.

Battery:
The battery lasts a surprising long time. Days actually. I charge my sweeper every 2 weeks or so (depending on use; I use it about 2-3 times a week and live in an apartment). I am not sure how long it actually takes to charge but I believe this is specified in the instructions.

Emptying the sweeper:
It is really easy to empty the sweeper. You just remove the compartment and dump it in the trash. I do have to say that it is annoying to clean the bristles of the sweeper. Hair strands get tangled in the bristles and it is hard to get them off. What I usually do is to use a pair of scissors to cut them up and then clean the bristles.

Bottom line:
This is a great investment and will make cleaning better. I hope the video is better and that the quality is ok.

If you like your Dyson, you'll probably like this tool too. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it is good for quickly dusting off flat surfaces like table tops, and it works well on keyboards and blinds too.

When I was looking to buy, I noticed several warnings that this only fits specific vacuums (fortunately, mine was one of the ones listed). It actually appears to fit almost all vacuums - it comes with two attachments that will connect to the hose of your Dyson: one connector fits DC07, 14, 17, and 18 tubes and the other fits DC11, 15, 16, and 21's. Dual cyclonic really works. We tried a bissell clearview as our first bagless. It would collect tons of dust and hair around the filter. Yuck, who wants to deal with this. The filter clogged up quickly with a thick coat of gunk, it was hard to remove, hard to clean and generally a mess.

Overall I don't see how most single cyclone vacuums are an improvement over bagged vacuums. You end up dealing with too much dust and spend too much time cleaning the vacuum.

In comparison, the Bissell 3990 Velocity series is amazing. Vacuum anything, hair, dust, sand, you name it. Amazingly it gets collected in the basket and not on the filter. I've used it heavily over the course of a week, with countless baskets being emptied. The filter has a consistent coloring of dust, but I wouldn't even call it a coating. Its just a little colored. No need to clean it or anything else on the vacuum anytime soon. And when it is time to clean the filter, its really easy to get it out and rinse it in water, unlike the Clearview which was much messier.

The vacuum I bought is the 3990-2, it has an indicator to tell you when suction has been reduced so you should clean the filter (nice!), and it has a light to let you know if you're sucking up dirt (can be useful).

Its nice to be able to turn off the beater bar.

My biggest concern is the beater bar. The bristles on the brush are VERY stiff and the brush by default sticks way down below the vacuum. The end result is that if feels like the vacuum is ripping my carpet apart. No matter how many times I vacuum a particular spot, it comes up with a bucket full of carpet fibers. Eventually there won't be any carpet left. I even wonder if the dust is really carpet thats been sanded down by the sharp bristles.

Other than that, it is powerful and extracts an amazing amount of dirt from the carpet.

The first one we bought had a problem with the motor, it would stink very very badly with an electrical smell. Got another one without the smell. Bissell does have quality issues. We also tried a velocity not total floors. The basket would not seal well even when locked. The machine we ended up with doesn't have any issues (so far).

Overall an amazing vacuum. I don't see any other reasonable alternative other than a Dyson.

I bought this vac when my relatively expensive one died some months ago. I generally like it, but it's not really intended to replace your "real" vacuum if you have carpet (especially if you have kids or pets), and that's what I'd been hoping for. Here are a few things you should consider:

* Cordless is great, but cordless vacs never have as much "oomph" as corded vacs. If you need heavy duty cleaning, you need a "real" vacuum cleaner. On the other hand, you'll probably pull it out much more often for little tasks, because it's so convenient.

* It's designed for "lightweight" uses, such as picking up crumbs under the table, and it shows. For example, it doesn't clean the edges along the walls very well, and you can't adjust the height for different kinds of carpet.

* It weighs "only" as much as a gallon of milk, and you have to lift it UP (an inch) to get it out of its re-charging cradle. If you were considering a lightweight vac primarily because of back problems, then you need to decide whether you can lift it before you order it. (I can't use a regular upright because pushing that much weight tweaks my lower back, but this has been fine for me.)

* Speaking of the charging base, dirt accumulates in it. It seems to fall out of the vacuum/beater bar. Plan to dump out the dirt every ten or twenty times you use it. (The dirt also seems to fall out of the vacuum on occasion when you turn it off. This may be common to other cordless vacs, but plan to look at the floor to see whether you have a pile of dirt underneath the vac after you turn it off.)

* I have had some trouble getting the dirt cup clicked back into place. You have to (lean over and) line it up correctly and push firmly while holding the vacuum (so it doesn't fall over). If you have severe arthritis or wrist/elbow problems that are aggravated by pushing, then you may find this aspect undesirable and should look for a regular (bag) vacuum.

* I have to dump the dirt cup at least once every two minutes. A quick run through the main pathways in the entry and living area usually means dumping the dirt cup two or three times.

* The directions say that you should clean the inner filters every single time you dump the dirt cup, and they're not kidding. We find that taking the filter assembly outside and tapping it firmly on a flat surface causes a surprising amount of dust to fall out. (Slamming it straight down on a fence post seems to be most effective.) The vac works MUCH better if you do this often. The suction loss as the inner filter gets clogged is very noticeable. We have even washed the inner filter in plain water to good effect (dry thoroughly, of course).

* The battery is usually adequate. If we try to vacuum everything (almost 1000 sf of carpet), then we sometimes have to let it recharge halfway through.

* I sure wish someone would invent a beater bar that didn't get clogged up with hair or carpet fuzz.

This vac would be perfect for:

* the kids to grab to clean up the dirt they track in
* the upstairs vac for everyday use (bring the real one up every few weeks to do a thorough job)
* as a broom substitute on tile or wood
* if you can't push (or the kids can't be trusted with) a large vacuum cleaner
* in an office
* in any situation where the point is to clean up a small mess before it gets ground in permenantly

What it's not good for:

This is easy to use and very light weight. It was just what I needed between weekly visits from the wonderful person who actually vacuums for me (I HATE vacuuming with a passion).

I have a cat and a dog and I garden (sloppily) so I needed something like this that I'd actually use. I took it out of the box, assembled it in about a minute (without even having to read the directions) and I cleaned up my kitchen. It pulled up an amazing amout of fur, etc. Now I'm looking for things to clean.

It took me a few trys to get the emptying part down, but it's easy. Just remove the main unit from the "stick" and empty it over a trash can or empty it over a piece of newspaper on the floor. Since the body is plastic a bit of the fine dust may cling to the outer case, so have a damp paper towel handy to give it a quick exterior wipe. No big deal.

The price is so incredibly reasonable that I bought another one to keep next to the kitty litter box.

I have two small children who seem to be increasing their crumb-dropping habit recently. I sweep crumbs into the corner of the kitchen and dining room (both hardwood) every day, but don't always have the chance to use the dustpan right away, plus you can't pick up every last speck that way. I am sick of sweeping and stooping!

So I found this little beauty and it is soooo much better than I expected! For $20, I figured I was taking a chance... but it works REALLY well! I leave on the roller head (as shown in pic) for floors and it's so light I pick it up and roll it across the dinner table as well! I slip the roller head off to get in the tighter corners, I use the crevice tool for the space between the carpet and walls in the halls. It's like a dustbuster on a stick, but since it plugs in, it's more powerful. It fits between my fridge and the wall with that sad, lonely old broom!

It is not a replacement for a big vac... I use my big, heavy Hoover for the plush carpet, but it's great for little touch-ups on the carpet. It does not, however, do great at picking up fuzzy carpet balls that are stuck to the carpet. It picks up beads better than my big vac (which sometimes spits them back out), it picks up crumbs, pieces of cereal, it even picked up an intact teddy graham with no problem.

The motor sounds very tight, smooth, like it will last. But I have not had it long, I will post again when I have more info on longevity. My only complaint is the plug isn't tight in the socket -- any pressure at all pulls the plug right out. I suppose if it's too annoying I can bend one prong slightly. I do wish it was easier to wrap and unwrap the cord since I'm using it so much! A retractable cord would be perfect. But for $20, I'm more than thrilled with this product.

I would not recommend buying this is you don't have a roomba. No really I'm serious there is not many other uses. If you do have a roomba you probably need some.

I have tried to use it as a breathing bask for my dog. Not a good idea.

I would not give it to small children or the senile elderly.

It can be used in Halloween costumes or if you need to fill up some small place with a small object.

They can be fun to stack and un-stack.

Try destroying them if you need something to destroy. No fire though! Smells bad and carelessness creates forest fires.

Please don't start a forest fire. I have a dog and she likes the forest. We run and play and if you burn down the forest because you lit the Roomba filter in a forest and created a fire I will be mad at you and if we ever meet I will let my dog bit you.

I've been a big fan of the whole Dustbuster portable concept since the beginning, but frankly, the results never quite lived up to the hype. We've owned 7.2V, 9.6V, and 12.6V Dustbusters, and while they were fine for pickup up dust in the corner or spilled coffee grounds, the "big" jobs always required pulling out the full-sized vacuum.

I've generally bought the second-tier Dustbuster -- one step down from the pricey flagship model, to where the bang-for-the-buck was greatest. Boy, am I glad I broke the habit this time!

The CHV1500 is in a different league. The combination of a 15.6V motor and the Cyclonic design finally reaches a point where the Dustbuster can tackle:

- dog hair in an area rug or stair runner
- sawdust
- staples and pins

We have two long-haired dogs, and keeping up with dog hair has always been a hassle. Our house is low on closet space, so the big vacuum is in the back room, and dragging it out is a pain. Now, we don't have to!

The battery life is improved, too. I've used this Dustbuster to thoroughly clean the 4' x 6' rug at the front door: loaded with winter road sand and the afforementioned dog hair. Normally, this is a 10-15 minute job, and previous Dustbusters seemed to run out of pep at about 5-6 minutes. The CHV1500 is still running strong at the end.

What don't I like about the CHV1500? One minor quibble: There is only a place for the long-nosed attachment; the short brush attachment has to stay in place on the nose of the vacuum -- or get stuck in a drawer somewhere, lost forever. Other than that, this is the best portable vacuum I've ever owned.

I bought this vacuum this month and it arrived yesterday, April 3rd. I had done quite a bit of checking on vacuums as we have owned many brands in the past, some of them being quite expensive models. Two years ago we purchased an Oreck upright with full warranty. Prior to that we had a Simplicity, before that an electrolux canister, some hoovers, a full Kirby ensemble and a number of other brands.

I live in the downstairs apartment of my parent's home and they live in the upstairs main level of the house. There is wall to wall carpeting throughout except for the kitchen and the entry hall. Between us, we have four dogs, and four cats. LOTS of hair! My mother also runs her business out of the house so at times there is a great deal of foot traffic coming in and out. Despite frequent vacuuming with both the Simplicity and the Oreck, the carpets never look clean. The Oreck refuses to pick up hair and has spent more time in the shop being serviced than it has been in the house. No matter which vacuum is used, prior to deep carpet cleaning with my Bissel Steam Pro, the deep cleaner still pulls up TONS of hair and I have to frequently turn it off and clean out what hasn't been redeposited on the carpet. It makes for a very frustrating time and one I do not look forward to. It has gotten so bad that I finally, out of desperation decided to look into purchasing yet another vacuum. I did my research and had my budget laid out. After choosing the Bissel Momentum 3910 I did a thorough vacuuming with both the Oreck and the Simplicity vacuums the day before delivery of the Bissel was scheduled. Upon getting the Bissel and putting it together I vacuumed again. The amount of hair and dirt the Bissel picked up was simply incredible. Not only did it pick up a ton of hair and dirt, but the room actually did smell and look much better afterwards, as opposed to after vacuuming with the other vacuums. I then used the Bissel Steam Pro cleaner and got no hair build up at all. The old carpet in the downstairs actually looked fresher and newer. That carpet is well over 15 years old and has seen some hard use. Mother borrowed the new vacuum and went to town upstairs remarking that she couldn't believe the amount of hair and dirt it picked up. After spending hundreds of dollars on other vacuums she was also amazed that I got it for under a hundred dollars with free shipping no less.

Pros:
PRICE ! You really can't beat the price.
Picks up a ton of hair and dirt other vacuums simply do not get.
Easy to assemble.
Easy to empty the large collection cup.
Cord is long and wraps up conveniently on hooks to the back of the machine. Both hooks turn to make releasing the wrapped cord a snap.
GREAT suction. Could not believe how powerful this vacuum is compared to many other machines I've used.
Not so heavy as some but heavier than other machines. However, the vacuum rolls easily without having to push all that much and it has a variety of floor height settings.
NO bags to mess with. Some people said that they had difficulties with the cup but I've had none at all.
Lights on front of vacuum really do light up the area you are vacuuming. Not only that but because of the open design of the vacuum, it is easy to see the roller brush and the contents of the collection cup in case something does get sucked up and jams the brush mechanism.
Reuseable, washable filter.

Cons:
It IS a bit on the top heavy side of things.
I would have liked having more tools to work with such as brush and crevice tools. The air powered unit that comes with it is great though the other tools would be very handy to have. I will be looking into extra tools to purchase but I honestly don't mind with what this vacuum provides me already.
It does take some getting used to so far as the hose attachment. With use this becomes much easier though.

I noted that some people found the plastic hose guides a pain but so far I've had no trouble with them at all. Some found the power button in an awkward place but I don't mind that either. Because it is a bit top heavy especially after unwinding the hose for use, I learned quickly to brace the handle so that it wouldn't tip over.

I would like to thank everyone for their input on this machine. It helped me to make a more informed decision on the purchase of it and I am really thrilled with it. I'd also like to thank Mr. Bissel for creating inexpensive, powerful cleaning tools for home use. I haven't been disappointed with any of Bissel's line of products so far. I will also be purchasing another of these vacuums for the upstairs for my mother to use and another as a wedding present in the next few months. For the money and the incredible job it does, I would keep one of these around all the time. In time, Bissel may reconfigure the vacuum to be a bit less top heavy but that so far is the only "complaint" I have. I'm recommending it to friends and family, definitely !

The power of a handheld vacuum is measured in the same way as that of a powerdrill - the amount of voltage the motor uses. The CHV1400 is one of the more powerful models with 14.4-Volts.

But numbers don't mean much if the power isn't delivered properly. Thankfully, this product does its job very well. It is about as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner, but that's to be expected. It sucks about as good as a full size vacuum - in fact I used it as my sole vacuum until I found a good deal on a full size one!

It handles dirt very well. It will suck up practically anything. I use it to clean up under my baby's high-chair (the parents among you will understand), my stairs (where I don't/can't use the full size vacuum), and in our cars. The on-board crevice tool is great for corners, and for the nooks of carseats.

It holds a charge for about 40 minutes - and I've worked it till it completely discharges. It has two settings, full and less-than-full (no name), and it is set by using the slider button on it's top. I don't see a reason why you would want to use the less-power setting!

It cleans very easily. The clear nozzle comes off, and then the filter and it's holder are taken apart easily. I hand wash them and leave them out to dry after each use. I can put it back together in about 1 minute.

I hung the charger on the wall, and it holds the vacuum securely while hanging.

I recommend this product fully.

I'd planned to get the small Dyson, but the reviews of this vacuum persuaded me to give it a try. It's absolutely excellent. It's the best handheld vacuum I've ever tried, and I've thrown more of these things away than I can remember. Fortunately, I've always saved the attachments. Sometimes they fit another model, sometimes they don't. Since there's no fancy coupling required to attach tools to the hose end of this one, its just friction, most fit it.

This is a solid, powerful vacuum. The filter is heavy-duty and seems very durable. It's easily removed and reattached. I use those over-priced compressed air duster cans to blow all the dust and dog hair off of the filter. Between this and my full-size Dyson, there's probably more of the family dog outside the house than in by now. As for the weight of this machine, it is a little heavy, but then I only have to support its weight when doing vertical surfaces or carrying it around. When it's vacuuming stairs and furniture, I let the horizontal surfaces support most of the weight.

Everything about this machine suggests its maker really put a lot of thought and effort into making an absolutely excellent product. And, I commend them for packaging it in protective plastic that can be easily removed without knives, pliers, bolt cutters, or a chain saw. The engineering on this one was obviously thoughtful and thorough.

Do not waste your time and money on this

Scooba just doesn't work. The one I purchased just wet the floor, and then tracked dirty soapy water all over my kitchen. The kitchen was worse off after Scooba than before.

Yes, I followed the instructions to prime it with the bulb. It didn't help. I wasted a huge amount of time trying to make this thing work. None of the fixes or instructions given helped. It's just a dud.

Cleans well, battery died after 10 months, they replaced it for free

I purchased the remanufactured iRobot Scooba for quite a bit more than the current price in February, 2007. It cleans well, but is a little noisy and tedious to clean. It does a good job of getting into nooks and crannies, but has a harder time getting through chairs around a table. This is just a size limitation and is expected.

In December, 2007, after leaving it plugged in for a few weeks, it would only run for a few minutes. Recharging and trying to use it several times resulted in the same problem. I called customer service and they offered to send me a new battery and a firmware update using an OSMO (all for free). That is great customer service. It was well out of the 90-day warranty for the remanufactured scooba.

Apparently there is a defect with the charging mechanism of some units where it feeds the battery too much of a charge in trickle mode (after the charge is complete to keep battery charged). This will ruin the battery. Even after the firmware update, they recommend that you remove the battery from the unit/charger if you don't use it every week.

Love it!!! Senses & stays off carpet.

I bought the "remanufactured iRobot Scooba (various colors)" and received the 5900 (light blue body with dark blue front bumper). I read the whole manual to see what I needed to do to keep it off the carpet (in our great room, the living room is carpeted & the rest of the room is tile) but there was no mention of carpet other than "remove lightweight rugs from the floor." So I let it loose in the room and was delighted to find out that it somehow senses when it gets to the edge of the carpet & stays off of it. The housing itself does appear to be used, although very clean. It looks like a full replenish kit was installed (new wheels, brushes, filters & squeegee). The battery also appears to be brand new, I charged it overnight and ran 2 45-minute cleaning cycles back-to-back on a single charge. I started a third cleaning cycle but the battery needed to be charged. The cleaning solution smells pretty good... it does have a pretty strong "clean" (not bleach or ammonia) scent. I'm delighted so far!!!

What a kick in the pants.
Just watching this thing work is worth more that the price of the unit, and it reaLLY WORKS thats what the kick in the pants is about. I keep following it around the house an so far havent got tired of doing so, about the the time I think it dosent know what its doing it figures out what Im thinking and goes about cleaning up the area, cat hair and all, Im quite sure it dosent clean DEEP down like my kurby will but by the way I have to empty out the collector box it is sure picking up a whole hell of a lot and I dont have to push it around. Which my poor bad back really appreciates. Well worth the price just be sure and get the park station, it make it so much better, (set it and forget it) as some commercial goes.

Very cool li'l vacuum. It is a bit scuffed up, and the charge only lasts 1 1/2 hours compared to the 2 hrs the manuals says it should run. It doesn't take 7 hrs to charge though, only about 3-4, which is good. A few tips - pick up the dust ruffles, and remove any throw rugs (it hates those). It also doesn't like the sliding door track or curtains that hit the floor. It pushes my cats' food bowls around. Recommend buying another virtual wall, this unit only comes with one.

Best Purchase I Ever Made
I purchased a remanufactured Roomba, and I could not be happier. I was crossing my fingers since some previous reviewers had problems with the item right out of the box, but I encountered no issues. It is fantastic on both my hard flooring and carpeting, but it seems to have problems going between the two. I just make sure that the area it's working with only has one type of flooring and problem solved! I am a huge fan of my Roomba and have recommended it to all my friends and family.

Roomba Customer Service

The 560 is a nice unit. It requires a lot of maintenance, because I own three large dogs. However, The unit has yet to fail me. The problem with Roomba is their customer service. First , the cryptic phone tree .... trying to get to a customer support person. Keep hitting 0 for operator and don't give up! I was on hold for 23 minutes. ANY RESPONSIBLE COMPANY WOULD MAKE A 24 HOUR TOLL FREE HOT LINE DIRECT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AVAILABLE. When someone spends that much money on a robot of any type, they should not hide behind email support, forums and blah, blah, blah.... Very bad impression. I am so sorry, but to be successful in business today you need to support your products and yes, believe it or not PAY to provide customer support. And please, I mean English speaking support, not someone from India or whatever. Even live chat works of support has to come from overseas... To be fair the girl I finally reached was very friendly and said that the Holidays has put a huge strain on their support program. OH WELL..... what a shame. The girl spoke fluent English and was very helpful. Lord I hope this gets to the higher ups at ROOOOOMBA ..... They need to hear this info. Otherwise, I like the product , and think it has a real future for those that hate to sweep up dog hair. Happy New Year.

It's a godsend

We got a Roomba because we need to vacuum twice a week due to allergies. Our old vacuum was heavy and we ended up going to the chiropractor often, so we finally decided to fork over the money.

This is one of those things that you get and say to yourself, "WHY didn't we get this earlier?" It vacuums nicely. The brush picks up the stuff in the edges. It's quiet enough that I can take a nap in another room (or in the same room when I'm really tired). It's more noisy on bare floors, though still nothing compared to a Eureka or (even worse) a Hoover.

Some things I was surprised to find out (perhaps a drawback for some):
-It takes a long time to finish a room (about an hour). It's very thorough.
-I have to recharge the battery after two rooms. I divide up the vacuuming into two days. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong.
-It's bagless, so the person with allergies may not want to be the one emptying it.
-You should dock it using the "dock" button. I put it in the dock and after a few times I got an error message. It was easy to find the remedy online using their website.
-Filters are $19.99 for 3. The box comes with one replacement filter, which we used after one month because the Roomba vacuumed some places that hadn't been vacuumed in ages (under the bed, under the bathroom cabinet). The new filter has lasted a while.
-It goes from carpet to bare floor and over rugs just fine.
-We didn't get the extra lighthouses (due to cost), so we section off rooms using dining chairs.
-Works great with pets. It bumped into my dog and changed directions. My dog doesn't mind it at all. It's also GREAT at picking up all the short pet fur.

In short, I highly recommend this vacuum.

A friend of mine told me how great this was, how wrong was she!!!!
This vac. is nothing but CRAP!!! shuts off every min. you have to let it cool for five. Good choice for the money

I started researching vacuum cleaners after my wife talked about spending $550 for a Dysan pet hair vacuum. I read the Consumer Reports assesment that gave two Kenmore vacuums very high ratings and this Eureka was rated fairly high and was much less expensive. So I purchased it.
As most others have stated, this vacuum: has powerful suction, a useable suction powered stair tool, an inexpensive replace-able bag, a replaceable HEPA filter.
Drawbacks? It is a little heavy. The handle release pedal requires a very heavy push. There is a .5 inch section of the roller (where the belt rides) that leaves a track on the carpet unbrushed.
What I would change: A longer hose would be helpful. Find a place on the vacuum to store the "power paw" as some have called it. The cord reel could be designed to be used more easily (You have to work around any attachments that are stored on the vacuum.).
Hint: The extension tube appeared to be totally unusable until I read in the manual that the tube comes in two parts, nested together at the factory. They were nested so tightly that they appeared to be a single piece until I used a hammer to separate them.
I am hopeful that this unit will hold up better than our previous Eureka, that has been operating with duct tape holding it together.

GREAT VACUUM

Vacuum has a lot of power! I did research and consumer information did recommend this vacuum. However, the vacuum I received from Amazon's supplier did have some mechanical problems. I had to take it to the repair shop within a week of purchase. (Repair cost covered by manufacturer) I am hoping that the bad connection is the only problem that will occur. It is truly an amazing cleaning tool. Amazon is willing to swap it out if I have another problem.
So, don't worry. Be HAPPY! And clean your house! :)

I have never done a review of an item before but but I spent so much time researching this vacuum cleaner purchase that I decided to. The other reviews were very helpful so I wanted to give something back. Please understand this review covers the machines ergonomics and functional aspects. Since the machine is new in our home I can not address how well the vacuum will perform after extended periods. First let me say that this purchase came after a lot of research. I compared most brands on the market and and narrowed the field to the hoover and the Dyson. After a trip to the local store I ruled out the Dyson due to its cumbersome design, high price and the series of steps necessary to use the wand and accessories. What a pain!. In addition the beater brush area is very high on Dyson the and would be very difficult to get under furniture and cabinets. Now that said, let it be know that my wife if a vacaholic. The vacuum runs every day in this house. For the last several years we have used a $400 Panasonic machine and we thought it was doing a good job. We were wrong! A first cleaning with this new hoover has returned several cups of dust and dirt from EACH room!!. Really!.This hoover finds dirt that the Panasonic didn't know existed!. The beater bar is very aggressive it will actually pull the head along if you don't restrain it. At this point I think I will just list the pros and cons as that is easier for the reader. The Pros far out weigh the cons on this machine and I think with a few simple changes hover will have the ultimate machine in this line. We are very pleased.

-Brush has very short stiff bristle that not serve well on blinds, ceiling fans. etc
-The cord is bit stiff and doesn't seem to match the quality of the rest of the vacuum.
-Dust bin has to be emptied some what frequently.

This vacuum is absolutly wonderful!!! I researched for days upon days to the point where people were calling it an obsession ;) This seemed to be the most logical choice. I decided on canister vacuum though I have never had one because I have a large kitchen and I wanted to do the lanolium in there with ease. Well this does the job. I have burber throughout the rest of the house and this vacuum cleans it like a champ! I wanted bagless because I hate the cost and hassel of bags. This is the first REAL vacuum Ive bought. Others have been dirt devils lol. I got this with free shipping at the buzz electronics for 193.99! Mine is model S3765-040 But I cant find the difference between this one and mine. Mine has the attachement with the brushes in it too. This is the only place I could find the model they have listed. So if you want a GREAT vacuum this is the one!

Despite the rave reviews here on amazon and on other sites, I was not expecting much with such a low price. My expectations were certainly rewarded with an amazing value, a great vacuum, and the usual Amazon speedy delivery. It is really hard to believe that such a good product could be so inexpensive, even if it is made in Mexico. The build quality is excellent. However, for someone tall, like me, (6'4") the handle is not long enough, the bag is on the small side, and the unit is noisy (but not any more so than other vacuums I have had that were 3x the price), but those are the only negatives after a week of use. Instead of smelling dust while vacuuming, the air coming out of the vacuum is actually fresher and cleaner smelling than the air in the room. Searching amazon, one can find belts for $3 or less and bags less than $1 in quantity, so the unit should be inexpensive to operate. If I get five years out of the unit, I will be more than satisfied.
